Caroline and Ben’s beautiful seaside wedding exemplified everything that I love about photographing small, intimate weddings. Surrounded by only their closest friends and family, they exchanged their vows in the tiny chapel of St. Gabriel’s in Marion, followed by an intimate dinner at the Beverly Yacht Club just down the street. But as beautiful as the chapel and the yacht club were, it wasn’t the setting that made this wedding a photographer’s dream. Caroline and Ben moved through the day with a wonderfully relaxed, easy grace. Like so many of the couples I work with, they didn’t approach their wedding with some pre-packaged notion of a “perfect day”. As a result, they weren’t unduly stressed—they were simply thrilled to be getting married, and to be celebrating with their closest friends and family in a place that was special to them. That unencumbered joy made for some amazing photos as they interacted with each other and their guests.
“Microweddings” are becoming ever more popular, and while Caroline and Ben’s guest list was a little bit larger (at around 50 guests) than is typical for a microwedding, their celebration still retained many of the characteristic microwedding elements. I hope it can serve as inspiration to anyone considering a simple, intimate wedding celebration.
